How I can improve the compression on my bike?

I did a compression test on my bike and was quite low. The mechanic considers that the engine has more than 4000 miles on it. This is a yamaha xs250 (1982) with 23,000 miles on it (checked) and stored for about 10 years two years ago. Got some Motul in gasoline to clean the fuel system and also bought some Redex engine flush. They hope to clean the carbs and pistons, and unglunk all dirt and oil that could manufacture pistons stick. Would it be better compression?
